Announcing PLParEQ, our 10-band Phase-Linear Parametric Equalizer
Tucson, AZ - November 4, 2005 - Refined Audiometrics Laboratory announces PLParEQ, our 10-Band Phase-Linear Parametric Equalizer
PLParEQ is currently recognized by mastering engineers all over the world as having the very best digital filters that you can obtain at any price. Running on PC/Windows VST hosts, it implements a variety of conventional IIR filters in either conventional phase-warped mode, or in true phase-linear mode.
Phase-linearity is accomplished by running the sound stream, in real time, both forward in time through the filters, and again in time-reversed order to unwind the forward time phase rotation. The amplitude characteristics of each filter are imparted twice in succession, but the filter system ensures that you get the gain you requested.
Using the same high-quality DSP core that our other products use, PLParEQ runs at any sample rate, and accepts 24-bit audio. Internal computations are carried out entirely with 56-bit precision, and 80-bit intermediate products and sums.
Data at sample rates below 80 kHz are internally upsampled with high quality Sinc interpolation before being filtered. At the end of the computations, all data are carefully dithered back to 24 bit audio using a white-Gaussian dither source. Data are downsampled, if necessary, to your system sample rate. The noise floor of our filters is controlled to around -180 dBFS/Root(Hz).
IMD generated by blocking the data for time-reversed processing during phase-linear operation is controlled to -120 dB from peak signal levels by means of sophisticated data windowing and 8-fold temporal overlap processing.
Available filters include lowpass, highpass, bandpass, band-reject, low and high shelving, and peaking/dipping with the three Sony-Oxford variants that are so popular with mixing and mastering engineers. Corner frequencies may be varied from 10 Hz to 30 kHz.
The user interface implements a very straightforward table showing all filter settings and a graph of the filters with articulated control of corner frequency and gain. One-handed operation is made possible by implementing both fast and slow movement with the two mouse buttons. Values can also be typed directly into the filter table.
All ten bands can take on any filter characteristic. Additionally, each filter can be selected for either Stereo, Middle, or Side filtering, permitting sophisticated filtering configurations with unheard of ease of use.
For monitoring purposes K-System metering is provided that offers your choice of K-20, K-18, K-17, K-14, and K-12. Clipping indicators are provided, but our filters do not clip your data. These serve merely as a caution that downstream processing is likely to clip the results.
PLParEQ is available as a 30-day unlimited trial plugin for your VST hosts on Windows PC's. Licenses are available for $1,000 USD, and each license carries with it the right to install on up to two computers, lifetime upgrades, improvements, and product support.
